Web 2.0 and Pop Culture 1.01 ? How to Build a Community and Make Shiploads of Money PDF Print E-mail

If you are just stumbling across this entry then be sure to read Peter's article The Other Place, which you'll find in the May edition of Longview (due out the week-beginning 21st May). For those who have come from the Longview article, the two books he was referring to are:

  • Reframing Organisations by Lee Bolman and Terrence Deal
  • The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell

The first is an enduring classic of the MBA circuit that has particularly strong, and eminently readable chapters on organisational culture, symbols and so on. This is the business book for the business reader. It is an excellent organisational theory handbook ? maybe one of the Top 5 of all time (on Harvey's list anyway).

The second is the 1949 classic that has influenced some of the most well known creators of modern phenomenon's such as George Lucas's, Star Wars and Indiana Jones (jointly with Spielberg). This is the non-business book that has made companies billions of dollars. It takes the concept of "hero" creation and the "heroes journey" much further than most organisations will ever take a social media strategy. But if you agree with the concepts of community building, I'm sure you'll get the idea.
