The Naked Chief Blog

Peter is the managing director of Longhaus and the primary voice of The Naked Chief blog. He founded Longhaus in 2006 following over a decade in international market research and publishing with Forrester Research and META Group (now Gartner). Over the last decade, and after personally participating in several thousand business and sales meetings, public and private presentations and research projects, and writing a few hundred articles, he has come to the conclusion that the profession of ICT analyst research is largely undervalued by the industry he serves. In the decade before starting Longhaus he was only ever asked to explain the research process (how he knew what he knew) once to a journalist and twice to a client. They just never asked. Since starting the company he and his team have been asked twice more in two years. Things are definitely improving, ICT analyst research in Asia Pacific is on the up, and Longhaus is somewhere amongst it all. Peter has also worked for international publishing conglomerates Pearson LLC., and Time Warner Inc., as a staff-writer and book reviewer as well as a strategy advisor to various CIOs of organisations rated within MIS magazine’s Australian Top 50 IT operations.

How you can maximize your time on the new longhaus.com

Posted by peter.carr in www.longhaus.combrisbaneAustralian Tech Indexaustralia

If you are reading this blog then you will probably have noticed that the website has just gone through a significant change. One of the key drivers for the change has obviously been growth: in customers, in content, and certainly in expectation. While the last 12-months have been a great period for us, this upgrade is a great platform for planned improvements yet to come.  What follows is a summary of key improvements with a view to maximising your time with us each time you visit.

Exposing more personalised content:
Exposing yourself on the web is never a good idea but good netiquette aside the biggest change we have made to our site has been to provide more direct visibility to the content that over 100,000 visitors come looking for each year. The interactive modules on the homepage that provide direct access to "Access All Areas" "Public Research" and "Naked Chief Blog" content are now fully customisable both in terms of quantity  of content (0-15 articles per module) and homepage positioning. Put them in wherever order you would like.

Measuring the effect of the global downturn on Australian ICT

Posted by peter.carr in economydavid wangAustralian Tech Index

There is little doubt that 2008 was a break-through year for Longhaus in what was a tumultuous year for the global economy. As a company we are approaching 2009 with a lot of optimism which will be supported by key announcements in the first quarter. As an analyst firm we are expecting a more eventful year than 2008 despite the global downturn. Some of this we will discuss in our Longview technology trends edition due out later this month.

Firstly though, please accept a warm welcome back after the Christmas holiday break, and a quick introduction to our latest analyst (David Wang) and Longhaus' latest research tool  (the Australian Tech Index).
